Dieter Helsnicht, Doom Lord of the Undead, był kiedyś wielkim i budzącym lęk czarodziejem, który został zmuszony do ucieczki z miasta Middenheim, gdy odkryto, że był nekromantą. Zbudował tajną fortecę w Lesie Cieni i ukrył ją tak dobrze, że nigdy nie została odkryta przez Łowców Czarownic, którzy szukali go przez lata. Tam powoli budował swoją siłę i planował zemstę. Dieter Helsnicht was once a great and renowned wizard who lived in the Empire city of Middenheim during the Time of the Three Emperors. Over the course of his studies Dieter learned of the great Necromancer king Kadon and decided to travel to the lands that he had once ruled in the Border Princes in order to find out more about this enigmatic and evil figure. It was while he was there that Dieter first started to hear rumours of the return of Nagash after his defeat by Sigmar. Dieter, drawn by an irresistible curiosity, continued his journey and travelled to the fortress of Nagashizzar. What happened to him in that cursed place is not known, but he returned to Middenheim a changed man, his hair turned prematurely grey and his skin tinged with an unhealthy pallor. The Doomlord had been born! Shortly after his return word began to spread of evil practices and vile rituals being performed in the dead of night by Dieter and his followers.

Dieter Helsnicht był kiedyś wielkim i znanym czarodziejem, który mieszkał w imperialnym mieście Middenheim w czasach Trzech Cesarzy. W trakcie studiów Dieter dowiedział się o wielkim królu Nekromantów, Kadonie, i postanowił udać się na ziemie, którymi niegdyś rządził w Księstwach Granicznych, aby dowiedzieć się więcej o tej zagadkowej i złej postaci. Właśnie wtedy Dieter po raz pierwszy usłyszał pogłoski o powrocie Nagasha po jego porażce przez Sigmara. Dieter, pociągnięty nieodpartą ciekawością, kontynuował podróż i udał się do fortecy Nagashizzar. Co stało się z nim w tym przeklętym miejscu, nie jest znane, ale wrócił do Middenheim jako zmieniony mężczyzna, jego włosy przedwcześnie stały się szare, a skóra zabarwiona niezdrową bladością. Narodziny Doomlorda! Wkrótce po powrocie słowo zaczęło się rozprzestrzeniać złych praktyk i podłych rytuałów wykonywanych w środku nocy przez Dietera i jego wyznawców.
